If you want to save time at work so that you can concentrate on the most important to-dos, then you've come to the right place. There are numerous extensions that have been specially developed for Google's Chrome search engine browser. But what are Chrome extensions?

Chrome extensions, also known as plugins or add-ons, are small software programmes that can be downloaded and installed from the Chrome Web Store. They extend the functions and capabilities of the browser with additional features. This allows you to customise the Chrome browser to your individual needs. To add the extensions to the Chrome browser, open the Chrome Web Store and search for the desired extension. Then click on "Add". The Chrome extension is then installed in your Chrome account. To make the desired extension visible in every tab, click on the puzzle icon in the top right-hand corner of your browser window. The list of your installed extensions will open. Click on the pin next to the desired plugin to fill it in blue and the plugin icon will be permanently visible in every tab in the plugin bar.

So what useful add-ons are there for SEOs or content creators and which extensions will help you organise your work? We've put together a few helpful tips for you.

Which plugins are a must-have for SEOs?

Whether reading metadata, analysing broken links or displaying the page with and without JavaScript - the Chrome extensions offer great added value for search engine optimisers. Relevant information can be retrieved quickly and clearly with just a few clicks. But which plugins do SEOs really use?

ChatGPT for Google

With this extension, SEO prompts for ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and GPT can be used. ChatGPT for Google is the AI extension that revolutionises your everyday SEO. In addition to access to GPT-4o, the Pro subscription also gives you access to Claude and Gemini. If you expand the window, you can compare the individual AI answers directly in the extension and pick out the best ones. Once installed, this Chrome plugin appears permanently on the right-hand side of the page in the SERPs and generates AI answers and images for the search requests you enter. The golden box at the bottom left of the tool shows you at a glance how many queries are still available per LLM.

diva-e SEO Plugin

The diva-e SEO plugin is also linked to the artificial intelligence ChatGPT. Recently, the OpenAI API Keys have been permanently stored so that AI-generated suggestions for titles and meta descriptions can be retrieved at the click of a mouse. The more often the blue button on the ChatGPT icon is clicked, the more suggestions for meta data appear. The diva-e add-on provides an overview of all relevant on-page data and, as a highlight, displays the pre- and post-render check with and without JavaScript. It is also possible to integrate the Core Web Vitals API and the Sistrix API. The tool is currently available free of charge in seven different languages. And the best thing about it: The diva-e SEO plugin does not collect any data, because your data belongs to you!

Hint: After opening the Pro mode, click on the slider and always open the plugin in Pro mode.

Free Backlink Checker by LRT

Would you like to check all links on a URL? - Then the Free Backlink Checker by LRT is helpful. This extension divides the available links into three categories: Working Links, Unverified Links and Broken Links. A distinction is made between follow and no-follow for each category. The different links on the page are easy to recognise thanks to colour coding. The extension also displays internal links and determines their status code.

Hint: Move the cursor over the individual links to see the source code of the links with the page's link code browser and solve problems more quickly.

Quick JavaScript Switcher

The Quick JavaScript Switcher displays the website called up with and without JavaScript. With just one click, it is possible to identify page elements that are not initially visible and to recognise which elements are hidden. Find out easily which JavaScript files influence the page performance of the site.

Hint: The Quick JavaScript Switcher can also be used at host or subdomain level. Unlike most plugins, JavaScript is not deactivated for all pages accessed, but only for the open tab.

View Rendered Source

The View Rendered Source plugin makes it possible to compare the original HTML code with the DOM at the click of a mouse in order to see how the Google search engine sees the page. More precisely, the rendering process of the initial HTML code to the DOM tree becomes recognisable. The changes made by JavaScript are colour-coded and highlighted in another window so that differences can be easily identified.

Hint: Use the three-column view, as the HTML code can be clearly displayed there. One window shows the code without JavaScript, the second shows the code with JavaScript and the differences are highlighted in colour in the third window. This trick not only saves time, but also provides an overview of which code has been added or removed.

No content creator should miss out on these add-ons

Writing SEO-optimised texts for a website is time-consuming and sometimes tedious, which is why there are now some useful Chrome extensions that make the work easier. From grammar and spelling corrections to the translation of texts into different languages - the Chrome extensions check every text.

Grammarly: Grammar Checker and Writing App

Grammarly checks spelling, grammar and punctuation in various file formats. However, free registration is required, without which the tool cannot be used. The extension offers real-time suggestions for improving the written text, regardless of the position in the browser. Different colour codes indicate the words and expressions that should be changed. With just one click, these suggestions can be adopted or expanded to provide new ideas.

Hint: In the premium version, the tool displays alternatives for entire sections of text, which makes the writing process even more efficient.

Language Tool: Grammar Checker

This tool checks texts throughout the web for grammar and spelling errors. No registration is required for the Language Tool. The labelling of word mix-ups and capitalisation ensures error-free text. Just like Grammarly, the Language Tool can also be used on Gmail and Twitter, for example. The extension supports over 25 different languages and recognises the country from which the tool is being accessed. The dictionary can be supplemented with your own words so that desired word usages are not corrected. The tool settings can be used to personalise the tool with the preferred languages, view the personal dictionary and define keyboard shortcuts. The spelling and grammar check for certain websites can also be deactivated here. Alternatively, you can also click on the tool icon directly in the element to deactivate the correction in the desired document.

Hint: If the Language Tool is not visible in the desired document, the document should be reloaded. In most cases, the desired error correction will then appear. Double-click on a word to suggest some synonyms that can be used as alternatives in the text.

Which Chrome extensions save valuable time in everyday work?

There is hardly anything better than a tidy desk that invites you to work efficiently. But sometimes it's hard to keep track of all the tasks. Don't worry, Google Chrome provides some useful organisational extensions that make everyday work easier. From the digital to-do list and a personalised tab in the browser to the password manager and digital post-its on websites - the Chrome plugins are diverse.

Todoist

Todoist makes it easier to plan and structure your day in a practical Chrome extension. Structuring tasks, adding exciting articles to the reading list or adding websites as tasks in the tool - Todoist makes it possible to plan your day in an organised way. Whether on desktop or mobile, the add-on records the tasks to be completed and allows you to set deadlines. Tasks can be coordinated even better by assigning priorities. The tool can also be used in a team with up to 50 members. However, a premium version is required for this. In the free version, up to 5 team members can work together and access the same task list. The Chrome extension can only be used with a registration that also works with the Google account.

Hint: Todoist can also be used as a mainpoint by linking the tool with up to 60 app integrations such as Dropbox, Google Docs or Google Drive.

Momentum

To stay focused throughout the day, Momentum can be used to create a personalised tab in the Chrome browser. With just a few clicks, Momentum is stored as the new default browser and enables a customised dashboard that can be supplemented with useful widgets. Each newly opened tab is now played by Momentum and displays a clear dashboard without distractions. Only a few widgets can be added, such as location-based weather, motivational quotes, the time or the search bar, to keep the focus on work. In the Pro version, to-do lists can be added and a permanent background image can be set. In addition, the Pomodoro time can be displayed by clicking on the two arrows to the left of the time. The name Pomodoro is derived from the Italian word for tomato and is an allusion to the kitchen clock in the shape of a tomato. An interval consists of four 25-minute sessions, each with a 5-minute break in between. The tool always counts back from 25 minutes so that the working time is divided into effective sessions.

Hint: In focus mode, only the most important widgets that you have defined are displayed so that nothing stands in the way of your focussed work.

Bitwarden

The free password manager Bitwarden is also available as a useful Chrome extension and can be used on several devices at the same time. The tool saves usernames and passwords and synchronises them with all devices on which the manager is installed. When opening the desired website that requires a login, the tool icon with a small number next to it automatically shows whether and how many different passwords are available for this login. A click on the Bitwarden icon opens the appropriate access data for the account and a further click fills in the login mask using autofill. It is useful that several folders can be stored simultaneously in a vault in the Manager, which are either only privately accessible or can also be viewed by several people. For example, identical passwords for work can be viewed and used by all colleagues in a department in one collection.

The tool also supports 2-factor authentication, e.g. by generating verification codes for the Google Search Console. To do this, the option must be activated in both tools. After successful connection, the code can be copied by clicking on the clock symbol to the right of the login data.

Hint: The password manager not only saves login data, but also generates strong passwords that can be changed as required. The manager itself is protected by a freely selectable master password, which must be entered each time Google Chrome is called up.

GoFullPage: Full Page Screen Capture

Sometimes it is necessary to obtain a high-resolution screenshot of the entire browser window. With the GoFullPage Screen Recorder, a comprehensive screenshot is possible that also captures scrollable elements and collapsed modules. Each screenshot is ad-free and can be accessed without complicated authorisations. The finished page capture can be downloaded directly as a PDF, JPEG or PNG. In the premium version, the screenshot can be cropped, annotated and supplemented with emojis.

Hint: To avoid having to click on the Chrome extension first, you can also press the key combination Alt+Shift+P (Windows) or Shift+Option+P (Mac) to obtain a screenshot.

Note AnyWhere

Note AnyWhere offers a digital solution for remembering ideas and notes. Important topics on a website can simply be pinned directly to the appropriate place in a virtual post-it note. Note AnyWhere makes it possible to add any number of notes in different colours to any website. The note is retained even after the page is closed and reappears the next time it is opened. The notes can be moved using drag & drop and hidden by clicking on "Hide Notes". Click on the three dots in the top left-hand corner to change the colour or delete the pin. There are two lines in the bottom right-hand corner that can be used to adjust the size of the pin.

Hint: The tool displays a small number on the icon to show how many notes are available for the page called up - even hidden notes are not forgotten.

So which plug-ins will help you in your everyday SEO & content work?

The variety of Chrome extensions is hard to ignore. They have become indispensable in many professional areas, as plug-ins always bring advantages. All extensions have one thing in common: they give the user easier and faster access to useful, tool-based browser extensions. Add-ons such as To Doist or Note AnyWhere bring structure and an overview to everyday work so that tasks are no longer forgotten. Momentum clears the browser window, displays the time and weather and motivates you with a mantra so that you don't lose focus on your work and can still access important information quickly. Bitwarden stores login data securely in a digital safe, saves you having to search for the right password and never forgets it. New passwords can be created with just a few clicks and stored securely in a corresponding folder. In order to have all important metrics at a glance, search engine optimisers in particular use the SEO plugin from diva-e or the Free Backlink Checker from LRT. Grammarly's grammar and spell checker and the Language Tool are also useful for immediately correcting errors in any text document. Thanks to synchronisation between all devices on which the Chrome browser is installed, the add-ons can be used on the desktop, tablet and smartphone.

Important: It should be noted, however, that only add-ons that are actively used should be downloaded, as otherwise the browser's performance may be impaired. The plug-ins can be customised to suit your everyday work by making individual settings for each application. For SEOs and content creators in particular, the add-ons offer a way to use your time more efficiently and in a targeted manner.
