In a broken link analysis, all 404 pages on your website are located and then analyzed for backlinks. Of particular interest and importance here are the 404 pages to which the backlinks refer. The main task of a broken link analysis is to identify these pages, analyze them for links and then make a recommendation on how to proceed with them.

Find lost link power through a broken link analysis in order to use it again for your website

After all 404-pages on the website to be analyzed have been identified by different SEO tools such as ahrefs or Screaming Frog, the task now is to find the corresponding backlinks that refer to these 404-pages. This is link power that was present in the past but was lost due to the "broken" or disabled pages. The main task and most important part of a broken link analysis is to determine the quality of the individual backlinks. Only links that are relevant to the topic and of high value are interesting. 


There are four different ways of dealing with these broken links:

  1. the 404 page is put back online.

  2. the 404-page is put online again but thematically revised.

  3. the 404-page will be redirected to a thematically matching page.

  4. the webmaster of the linking page is contacted to ask him to replace the dead link with a URL that we consider suitable.


At the end of a Broken Link Analysis you will receive a detailed list of all "death links" on your website and an explicit recommendation on how to deal with them. So you get an effective means to significantly increase the performance of your website.
